Thoughts On Blog Topics and Post Frequency

I was quite the prolific blogger a couple of years ago. I had about a dozen different blogs covering different niche topics. I was writing at least a post a day. Until I awoke one morning to find that all my blogs were down. I never was able to recover them. That's a long, sad story I won't get into now.

It's taken me a while to get over that and get back into blogging. Between then and now, I've continued to read a lot of other blogs about blogging itself and social media in general. I've found there's a lot of talk about 'sticking to one topic' and setting a 'blog frequency'. I'm just letting everyone know now that I don't plan on doing that here. I may again decide to start a few other blogs for specific niche topics, but for this blog, rjdempsey.com, I plan on writing whatever I want, whenever I want.

Not that there's no merit in picking one topic and sticking to a regular publishing schedule. Especially if your goal is to increase traffic and conversions for your business or monetized blog. But this blog is about me. If you've known me for any length of time you would know that I've always had constantly shifting careers, interests and hobbies. I can be dead serious one second and totally capricious the next. It's likely this blog will reflect that.

I also want to be totally relaxed and free flowing when I write. And having to stick to a schedule would not be conducive to that end.

I think it's silly when bloggers write 'apology posts' about how sorry they are that they haven't blogged much recently. Don't apologize. No one cares about your blog anyways.
